The Bottom Line

On the whole, economic figures did not exhibit a stellar performance this week, but neither were they indicative of a deteriorating trend in economic activity. Housing remains the single most solid performer, and industrial production consistently wins the anemic award. The trade deficit narrowed in October, but lingering effects from the West Coast longshoremen problems persist and could very well skew the data through the end of the year. Economic growth is progressing slowly.
