| Political pressures dominated markets as economic data were sparse in the week. More than one administration official, including Vice President Dick Cheney, warned that more terrorist attacks are likely to happen on U.S. soil although no one has any idea when this would be. Uncertainty of any kind roils markets. On the economic front, durable goods orders and new home sales came in stronger than expectations while the opposite was true for first quarter GDP. But GDP is old news while orders and home sales covered April data. On the whole, the latest set of data revealed nothing new about the economy. |
