Equities also on the road to recovery
The Dow Jones Industrials began on the week on a bright note, rising from already high levels from the previous week. But after realizing that perhaps they were getting ahead of themselves, investors took some profits, causing the DJIA to dip a bit over subsequent days. By week's end, equity investors saw that the economy was showing marked signs of recovery and this allowed the Dow to edge higher again. The S&P 500 as well as the Russell 2000 posted some moderate gains during the week. The more anemic of the bunch turned out to be the NASDAQ composite index, which gained on Friday but was generally down during the week as investors became concerned about profitability in the tech market.


Bond yields heading higher
Economic data is improving to the consternation of bond investors. The bond market would much rather see anemic activity with no signs of improvement. Inflation does remain subdued, a positive sign for bond investors. Nevertheless, bond investors are looking for a Fed rate hike in the next few months. Bond yields didn't rise as much as last week but were still higher from a week ago.
