December manufacturing data were better than expected and helped to start the New Year off with a bang. Equity prices jumped sharply in sharp contrast to December's downward trend. Economic data were otherwise sparse and not particularly exciting. Nevertheless, the holidays came and went without any serious mishaps to the global financial environment.
